Two individuals, identified as Jorge Navarretecorvalan, 32, and Alejandro Tobarfuentes, 32, were apprehended following a high-speed chase and burglary in Orange County. According to sources, the duo allegedly invaded a home in San Juan Capistrano, making off with luxury handbags, jewelry, and a safe on June 8. When an Orange County sheriff’s deputy attempted to intercept their vehicle, they evaded the officer, instigating a high-speed pursuit.

The suspects, driving a Mini Cooper, proceeded to drive on the wrong side of the freeway, crashing into a Toyota sedan and causing severe injuries to the sedan driver. It was reported that they narrowly escaped hitting a deputy involved in the pursuit. During the arrest, the suspects provided false Venezuelan IDs. Later findings determined that they were Chilean nationals, visiting the U.S. under a visa waiver from the Department of Homeland Security.

Navarretecorvalan faces charges including first-degree burglary, evading a peace officer while driving against traffic, reckless driving causing injury or death, and possession of a counterfeit identification card. Similarly, Tobarfuentes is charged with first-degree burglary, possession of a forged identification card, and possession of burglary tools.

If charged on all counts, Navarretecorvalan faces up to eight years imprisonment, while Tobarfuentes could spend up to six years and eight months behind bars. The ESTA visa waiver program, which the duo used to enter the U.S, has been criticized for enabling international crime rings to exploit its lenient requirements for committing burglaries.
