Sources relay that a fatal accident occurred along Foothill Boulevard in Pasadena in the early hours of May 11. The incident involved a single-vehicle crash which claimed the lives of three people and injured an additional three individuals.The vehicle, a 2018 Tesla Model 3, was reportedly traveling west on Foothill Boulevard at speeds exceeding 100 mph. The car ran a red light at Sierra Madre Boulevard nearly missing a vehicle at the intersection. As the Tesla approached Vista Avenue, it hit the curb causing it to lose control, crash into a streetlight, and launch into the air. The vehicle then collided with a power pole before finally crashing into an unoccupied building approximately 130 feet away. According to authorities, there were a total of six people inside the vehicle. Four passengers were in the back seat and none were wearing seatbelts. All occupants of the vehicle were ejected upon impact. The driver, a 22-year old plus one of the passengers seated in the front and another in the rear, succumbed to their injuries on the scene. The remaining three passengers, including the driver’s 17-year old sister, were transported to the hospital. While two are reportedly in stable condition, the driver’s sister is said to be in critical condition.Authorities are set to conduct a toxicology report to identify if the consumption of drugs or alcohol was a contributing factor in this accident. In the meantime, sources say that residents of the area believe speeding is common near the site of the crash and are hopeful that local officials will enact safety measures in response to this tragedy.
