A tragic early-morning accident in Pasadena involving a single vehicle claimed the lives of three people and left three others injured. The incident took place around 2:38 a.m. on May 11 in the 2300 block of Foothill Boulevard. The vehicle in question was a 2018 Tesla Model 3. Authorities report that the Tesla, travelling west on Foothill Boulevard, was driving at an excessive speed of over 100 mph in a zone with a designated speed limit of 35 mph. The vehicle also ran a red light at Sierra Madre Boulevard. The Tesla subsequently hit a curb near Vista Avenue, lost control, and collided with a streetlight. It then launched into the air and hit a power pole before smashing into a vacant building approximately 130 feet away.The Pasadena Police Department reports that there were four passengers in the backseat at the time of the accident, none of whom were wearing their seatbelts. All occupants of the vehicle were ejected on impact. The 22-year-old driver, Moheb Samuel, died at the scene. His sister, Emily, 17, is reported to be in critical condition.Two passengers, Esrom Fessemaye and Stefan Pfeifer, were also killed in the crash. The remaining two passengers, Emerson Newquist and Bella Ramirez, were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition. Toxicology tests are being performed to determine if alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.
