A fatal accident involving two speeding vehicles occurred in Burbank at 11:15 p.m. on a Saturday near the intersection of Vanowen Street and Hollywood Way. Sources say both cars were traveling east on Vanowen Street at a high rate of speed and collided as they approached Hollywood Way. The impact of the collision resulted in both vehicles veering into a utility pole and subsequently a fire hydrant. The impact on the fire hydrant caused water to gush onto the street. One of the cars was a white Scion. The violent impact ejected the driver, who was declared dead at the scene. The victim’s identity is not released yet as next of kin notifications are ongoing. Extensive damage was evident from footage shown on the Citizen App, with indications that the victim may have been pinned under the car. The second vehicle involved was a Toyota Corolla. The driver sustained moderate injuries and was treated on site by paramedics. Authorities report that it is yet to be determined if drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident. However, contributing to the accident’s severity was the high speed at which both vehicles were traveling.
