Residents of a neighborhood in Burbank, California are urging for greater safety measures after another vehicle crashed into a concrete wall near a problematic intersection by their homes. The intersection in question is where Vanowen Street meets Buena Vista Street, with Buena Vista Street running across railroad tracks directly adjacent to the intersection. Homes on North Buena Vista have experienced multiple vehicular crashes over many years, the latest one happening on a Tuesday morning.Sources say the early morning crash occurred at 4:37 a.m. at 1835 Buena Vista Street. Despite the accident, the home at the address was spared any damage due to a protective concrete wall and a large tree in its vicinity. The incident involved a black Nissan Altima that had struck a light pole and subsequently crashed through the concrete wall. An elderly man was hospitalized following the crash, suffering a head injury. The cause of the incident is still unclear with authorities examining if speed or intoxication played any role. The collision is the latest in a series of similar incidents that have been occurring for decades at this intersection. This persistent problem has led to residents asking for better protective measures. Homeowners and residents have expressed their concerns about reckless drivers and have requested for more robust safety measures such as increased police presence, additional traffic lights, and speed bumps. Despite efforts by city officials to install dividers and barricades, residents argue that these measures are insufficient. In the past, one home located at 1838 Buena Vista Street has even been dubbed as likely to be the ‘most accident-prone in the country’, with a lengthy history of vehicular crashes. At one point, the homeowners suggested that the city council purchase the property due to its inhabitable and unsafe condition.
