Tragedy struck on Lake Marie near Antioch Township, Illinois, claiming the lives of two young girls, according to latest reports. The victims were identified as 16-year-old Sarina Vootkur from Lake Forest, and 13-year-old Elle Kim from Long Grove, Illinois.On Tuesday, the two victims were on a Yamaha WaveRunner. Vootkur was in control of the watercraft with Kim as the passenger. Witnesses relayed that the girls were traveling at substantial speed directly into the path of a speed boat operated by a 55-year-old Illinois man.Following the collision, both Vootkur and Kim were thrown into the water, losing consciousness. They were both wearing life vests at the time of the incident. This enabled the boat’s passengers to rescue them from the water and administer first aid until they could be brought to shore.Despite the quick response, both girls were pronounced deceased upon arrival at a nearby hospital. No other injuries were reported in relation to the incident.A fund is currently being organized to create a memorial and ‘permanent remembrance’ for Sarina Vootkur, the 16-year-old victim. The precise details of the incident continue to be investigated by the local Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois Conservation Police.
