On Wednesday night, a 48-foot pleasure craft carrying 11 passengers crashed in the waters off Long Beach, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. The vessel is reported to have collided with rocks near the Los Alamitos Bay jetty, causing it to overturn and take on water.The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the incident just before 9:30 p.m. When first responders arrived at the scene, they identified it as a mass casualty incident. Aerial footage of the incident revealed an intensive rescue operation as victims were retrieved from the scene and transported to nearby hospitals.Following the incident, sources confirmed that one of the passengers, described only as being between 40-50 years of age, was declared dead on the scene. Five others required physical extraction from the wreckage and, in total, 10 people were rushed to nearby hospitals. Of those hospitalized, three are reported to be in critical condition.Sources suggest that the speed of the vessel could have contributed to the crash, though details surrounding the exact cause are still limited. Investigations are ongoing to further understand the circumstances leading up to the accident.
