Late Wednesday evening, a fatal accident occurred involving a 48-foot pleasure craft in the waters off Long Beach, resulting in one death and sending multiple passengers to the hospital, according to sources. There were a total of 11 passengers onboard when the craft crashed near the Los Alamitos Bay jetty.The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the emergency call almost immediately prior to 9:30 p.m., following reports of a vessel running into the jetty rocks, flipping over and subsequent water influx. On arrival, the magnitude of the accident led first responders to categorize the incident as a mass casualty event.Aerial images of the scene showcased a substantial presence of first responders involved in rescue operations, extracting victims in difficult circumstances and transporting them onto awaiting ambulances for immediate medical attention. In total, 10 victims were rushed to nearby hospitals. Of these, three are in a critical condition, while seven are stable.This incident’s specifics are scarce at present, and the cause of the crash is still undetermined. However, sources believe that the vessel’s speed likely played a significant role in the incident. It is also known that one of the victims, mentioned as being in their 40s or 50s, died on the ship.
