In a recent incident, four individuals, three of them later identified as teenagers, lost their lives after a high-speed car chase ended in a violent crash in San Bernardino County. The chase started around 1:45 a.m. near Foothill Boulevard and Archibald Avenue in Rancho Cucamonga, when authorities tried stopping what they suspected to be a drunk driver behind the wheel of a black 2018 Hyundai. Instead of heeding the authorities, the driver decided to bolt, leading to the chase. An aerial unit followed the Hyundai’s path as it sped west on 16th Street in Upland. Roughly six minutes into the chase, the driver collided with a white 2010 Ford Mustang at the intersection of Mountain Avenue, following which the Hyundai hit a pole and split into several parts before catching fire.Footage showed parts of the Hyundai scattered around the intersection, hinting at the violent impact of the crash. The chase claimed the lives of four of the five Hyundai occupants, one of whom was identified as a 13-year-old boy who survived and was rushed to a nearby hospital. The two individuals in the Ford Mustang were also taken to a hospital as a safety measure.Sources say that during the investigation, it was discovered that the Hyundai had been reported stolen from Fontana, and a loaded firearm was found on one of the deceased. The incident has sparked three parallel investigations: one into the chase by the Rancho Cucamonga Station officials, another to determine the exact cause of death and to identify the fourth victim by the County Coroner’s Office, while the Upland Police Department is investigating the collision. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the respective departments.
