A male driver, believed to be in possession of a stolen red Toyota Prius, engaged law enforcement in a high-speed pursuit through the San Fernando Valley Thursday evening. The man drove the suspect vehicle at speeds ranging from 60 to 70 miles per hour on local streets, even driving against traffic and going through red signal lights. An attempt to evade the pursuit saw him make a turn into a dead-end street where he crashed into a metal gate. The impact resulted in significant damage to the front and driver-side sections of the vehicle, including a shattered windscreen.Despite this, the suspect proceeded onto the freeway, narrowly avoiding collisions with different vehicles, while maintaining speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. The chase initially commenced at approximately 7:45 p.m. with multiple police units from San Fernando diligently tracking the suspect’s movements. The chase ultimately led to the entrance of an apartment complex located on Sunland Boulevard in Sunland. The suspect attempted to force his way in by ramming the vehicle into the gate but was unsuccessful. He then deserted the vehicle and ran into the complex, ultimately seeking refuge inside a residence. Law enforcement officials quickly secured the vicinity, leading to the eventual location and arrest of the suspect.Sources say the suspect was later transferred to a hospital due to injuries sustained from a K-9 unit deployment during the arrest. They also confirmed that the vehicle driven by the suspect had been involved in a separate pursuit earlier in the day, which was initiated by Burbank police who subsequently lost track of the vehicle.
