Authorities are continuing to investigate an incident that occurred on June 29, 2024, in which a male driver died following a collision with a deputy in Apple Valley, San Bernardino County. The incident occurred at approximately 4 p.m. on Bear Valley Road. The deputy from the Apple Valley Police Department was responding to a service call and had activated the vehicle’s emergency lights and sirens.While going westbound, a motorist in a Toyota Corolla, who was in the process of making a left turn into a parking lot, collided with the deputy’s vehicle. The impact killed the Toyota driver instantly and the deputy sustained minor injuries.Sources noted both vehicles sustained significant damage from the collision. Bystanders were present at the crash site, which was flanked by shopping plazas on either side. The identity of the Toyota driver has not been released; he has only been described as a male. Following the incident, the deputy was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.Bear Valley Road was shut for several hours between Kiowa Road and Snapping Turtle whilst authorities cleared the wreckage.
