A man from Ventura County is currently facing charges after he reportedly left the scene of an accident, which resulted in the death of a local dog. The collision occurred slightly before 9:45 p.m. on June 8 at the crossroads of Los Angeles Avenue and Tierra Rejada Road in Moorpark.Reports suggest that a Honda Odyssey minivan was heading west on Los Angeles Avenue when a Ford Explorer, allegedly running a red light and moving north on Tierra Rejada, collided with it. Following the mishap, the passengers of the minivan were transported to a local hospital for medical care. In the course of initial inquiries, a resident living near the crash site alerted deputies of a Ford Explorer that had hit their dog and then fled from the scene. Despite immediate transportation to a local vet, the dog did not survive the accident-induced injuries. The abandoned Ford Explorer was later found parked on Ruth Avenue not far from where the dog owner flagged down the deputies. Investigators noted that the damage on the SUV was consistent with the earlier collision details. Using evidence recovered from the vehicle, the law authorities identified the suspect as Jesus Sanchez Valencia, a 29-year-old resident of Moorpark. Valencia was arrested subsequent week and detained at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura, facing felony and misdemeanor hit-and-run charges. His court hearing is due in the Ventura County Superior Court on June 28. Individuals with additional information about either hit-and-run incidents are urged to get in touch with the local authorities.
