In the early hours, a multi-vehicle collision occurred on I-605 South, just south of SR60, according to sources. The incident began around 12:30 AM, with reports of two vehicles involved in a traffic collision. The vehicles involved included a Mazda with significant rear-end damage, and multiple other vehicles blocking the lanes.Soon after the initial collision, one of the vehicles reportedly started to catch fire, prompting the arrival of a fire department unit. According to reports, the occupants had managed to vacate the vehicle in time.Traffic on the lanes was halted for a brief period, to allow for emergency services and law enforcement to access and assess the scene. It appears that one vehicle was left unoccupied following the collision, and an attempt to push this vehicle to the side of the freeway was made for traffic mitigation. In order to handle the aftermath of the collision and cleanup process, including oil spillage, a service provider was requested to respond and assist. There was a need to hold traffic momentarily again as the service provider arrived to ensure safe commencing of their cleanup duties. In the end, both damaged vehicles were hooked up for towing. As cleanup and final assessment were concluded, the incident had an estimated total duration from first reporting to full clearance of approximately two hours.
